Job Title: Recreation Intern

Definition: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Coordinator, the Recreation Intern works with a team of various Mission Oaks staff to oversee a group of community participants in the programs available to create healthy, sustainable parks and recreation services that transform the communities that we serve.


  • Responsible for keeping participants engaged at all times.
  • Responsible for using district resources wisely.
  • Prepares the room or space for programs each day and has all supplies ready for programs, if applicable.
  • Maintain records and complete all reports as necessary in a timely manner.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and workshops.
  • Responsible for notifying and reporting any problems or concerns to the Recreation Supervisor and Coordinator.
  • Assist with marketing programs through various platforms and helping to recruit participants.
  • Show respect for all staff and guests.
  • Take pride in a job well done.
  • Dress appropriately for your work assignment.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Be effective in verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  • Be approachable, positive, friendly, and open-minded.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Strength, mobility, and stamina to bend, stretch, stand, kneel, walk, stoop, lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 30% standing, and 20% walking or activity.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be at least 18 to apply. Must be enrolled in a college. Experience in the field is not required. Must be fluent in English.

Other Requirements:

  • Possession of the category of California Driver's license required by the State Department of Motor Vehicles to perform the essential duties of the position. Continued maintenance of a valid driver's license and compliance with established district vehicle standards.
  • Some assignments may require valid and current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or willingness to receive certifications provided by the employer.
  • Perform CA DOJ Livescan process prior to working (fingerprinting).
  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination (TB Test) administered by a county health services department doctor.
